Dear Visitor, there are now six personal/group rapid transit (PRT/GRT) systems in public service around the world. The first one went into service fifty years ago and is still running with the original 69 vehicles. Every system that has gone into service since then is still in operation, verifying the viability of the technology.
Systems in operation have speeds up 40 mph and capacity up to 20,000 passengers per hour per direction. Many of them can provide better service for less cost than light rail, bus rapid transit and automated people movers.
At least 12 such systems are now being implemented around the world. My prediction is that two will enter public service in 2026 followed by about four in 2027. Hopefully implementation will continue to double every year thereafter.
Happy New Year!
